Walter's Steakhouse and Wine Bar
219 Alice St, Brisbane City QLD 4000, Australia
About
Walter’s Steakhouse sources only the best grain-fed beef. We dry-age and prepare all our steaks in-house, so to ensure we have maximum control. Aged for a minimum of 4 weeks, the natural umami intensifies and aids in tenderising the beef. This results in a superior steak, and one of the best in Brisbane.

Nice restaurant with a refined and elegant atmosphere. It clearly has historical significance, which is reinforced by the fact that, after payment, I received a postcard featuring an old photograph of the building. We arrived without a reservation, and it took several minutes before someone acknowledged us. We were informed that the manager needed to be consulted before seating us, which resulted in an additional 3 minutes wait at the entrance. We ordered two eye fillet steaks, a crumbed cauliflower dish, grandads potato, and crème brûlée for dessert. The eye fillet was an excellent cut; however, it was unseasoned for my taste. The crème brûlée was good, but not exceptional. The grandads potato is exotic and unusual. The potato balls seem to have been fried. Three different types of bread were served before the mains, one unit of each, but obviously insufficient for three people to share. Imagine yourself having to slice a bread in 3 parts. As a result, we had to order an additional bread plate. I do not drink alcohol, but comments at the table were that the wine and beer prices are excessively high. The food pricing also felt inflated, with the AUD $64.00 eye fillet served without any sides being a clear example. Lucas served our table and was a true gentleman—professional, attentive, and courteous. Overall, it was a good experience, provided you are willing to pay significantly more than usual for dining out. Photos attached for the menu and food that we ordered.
We dropped into Walter’s for lunch in Brisbane as a group of three without a booking and were pleasantly surprised to be accommodated without any fuss — always a great start. The food itself was a real highlight. We ordered a variety of entrees and mains, along with sides, and every dish was beautifully presented, delicious, and cooked to perfection. Clearly a kitchen that knows exactly what it’s doing. We enjoyed things so much that we rolled straight into desserts, dessert wine, and coffees to finish — because why stop when you’re on a roll? There were a couple of small service hiccups worth mentioning. The Chenin Blanc we initially ordered unfortunately had a fault — it contained cork fragments, likely due to the Coravin system — and honestly didn’t taste like wine at all. While the sommelier was extremely apologetic (which we appreciated), they suggested it came down to our taste rather than the wine itself. We happily swapped to a rosé and moved on, but it was a slightly awkward moment. Later, one coffee was missed when our final order arrived at the table. After mentioning it to the friendly wait staff, it was quickly brought out, confirmed as part of our original order (it was written down), and then removed from the bill — handled professionally and kindly, which we really valued. Overall, a fantastic lunch with excellent food and warm service, with just a few minor bumps that, if smoothed out, could make the experience truly seamless.
We had a small issue during our visit, but it was resolved quickly and kindly thanks to Anisia’s outstanding professionalism and care. The steak was great value for money, and the restaurant’s signature creamed spinach sauce paired perfectly with it. The mashed potatoes were the real diamond of the meal — smooth, buttery, and perfectly seasoned. Overall, we left very satisfied and truly appreciated the attentive follow-up and hospitality. We’ll definitely be back soon!
My partner and I recently went to Walter's Steakhouse, and the steak was AMAZING the best we’ve had! 🥩 We ordered six dishes, but the highlights were definitely the porterhouse steak and the lobster spaghetti. Both were so delicious. If we go back, we'd only order three things: the steak, the lobster spaghetti, and maybe a different dessert. Just a heads-up, they might offer you the menu again, and it’s easy to end up ordering more! Total Bill: $350 excl surcharge lol
I recently visited this restaurant for my husband's birthday, and despite a rocky start, it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I misunderstood our booking time, thinking I had successfully rescheduled, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. When we arrived, I was heartbroken to learn we couldn’t enter, especially since it was our last day in Brisbane. (My husband went to find parking )While I waited outside, feeling quite sad, the receptionist came out to check on me. She must have seen my distress, as I wasn’t familiar with the booking system, and she kindly helped me resolve the misunderstanding. I was finally allowed inside, and I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with emotion—I even started to cry tears of joy! To my surprise, the receptionist offered us two glasses of wine to comfort me, which was such a thoughtful gesture. I’m incredibly thankful for her kindness (I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name!). Once seated, we enjoyed the amazing food—especially the onion soup and steak. The atmosphere was perfect, making it a lovely setting for the celebration. Overall, this restaurant turned a challenging situation into a memorable dining experience. Thank you for the wonderful service and delicious food; it was the perfect ending to our trip in Brisbane!
