Went here after watching Mark Wiens rave about it and mention that it’s ranked as the world’s 9th best burger, so expectations were definitely high 🍔🔥 First of all, the service was absolutely top-notch. From the moment you walk in, the staff make you feel genuinely welcomed, comfortable, and well taken care of 👏✨ The atmosphere is classy, dark, and very premium — perfect for a special night out 🍷🕯️ Now coming to the burger itself: Presentation-wise, it looked great — very clean, well put together, and definitely appealing to the eye 😍📸 Taste-wise… it was fine, but not memorable. It didn’t have that “wow, I need to come back for this” factor. There are plenty of burger joints out there that offer much better flavor at a better price 🍔💸 Considering the price point, I personally felt it didn’t fully justify the hype. You’re paying a lot for the experience and name rather than the taste alone. ⭐ Final rating: 3/5 stars ➕ Amazing service & atmosphere ➖ Very basic taste for a premium price Worth trying once for the experience, but not something I’d crave again and again 🤷♂️🍔
reserved a month in advance for 2 for a Saturday evening. I was ready exactly at 7 AM to make a booking for 7:30 PM but I was too slow so the only other option left was 5:30 PM, which was also fine. In the main dining room, there is a no-phone policy, ao our phones were taken away from us. However, they were happy to take a photo of us at the beginning and after finishing the food if we wanted to. Staff were friendly, took their time to explain the concept and the food was delicious. Burger and steak were excellent, not sure if it was the best I’ve ever had. Would definitely come back. I tried the burger, French dip, Spinalis, Sirloin on the bone, confit potato and broccolini. For dessert we had ice cream. as it was a birthday celebration they gave a jelly with a candle in it
Classy and mysteriously hidden steak house blended with old world charm and service to match. The Rib Eye on the bone is superb especially if you finish it off by eating the burnt fat and meat from the bone! The Kangaroo Loin was very tender and not gamy reminding us of an eye fillet. Service was impeccable and we were seated in 'The Library' where they provided a dealer for a private poker game afterwards with drink service.
Came by The Gidley to finally try their burger, and overall it’s a very solid, high-quality feed. The patty was cooked well with good flavour, though personally I would’ve liked it just a touch thicker and juicier to really hit that next level. Still — it’s one of those burgers that feels carefully made rather than greasy, and you can taste the quality in every bite. The fries were excellent — perfectly salted, crispy, and served with a great aioli/mayo that tied it all together. Also tried the fried pickles, which I ordered out of curiosity. They kind of reminded me of grilled zucchini chips, but in a good way — crunchy, tangy, and addictive with that chipotle-style mayo on the side. The vibe inside is awesome — hidden, moody, and relaxed with that underground steakhouse feel. The guy who served us was super chill and friendly, adding to the easygoing atmosphere. At around $26 for the burger, it’s on the pricier side, but you can tell you’re paying for quality ingredients and execution.
We dropped into The Gidley without a booking after our show ended earlier than expected, and they welcomed us warmly with a spot in the lounge—already a great start. We came specifically for the burgers and they absolutely delivered. T ordered the regular burger, while I added bacon and egg to mine. Both were rich, juicy, and incredibly flavourful—easily among the best we’ve had in Sydney. The staff bring your burger out on a tray, cut in half for easy eating, which felt both thoughtful and a little fancy. We shared a bag of fries, which you season yourself by shaking them up with your chosen flavour mix—fun and delicious. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between relaxed and refined, with warm lighting and top-notch service throughout. A special mention has to go to the bathrooms—stocked with thoughtful touches and high-end toiletries that give a nod to old-school hospitality. The women’s bathroom even had a few “just in case” items, and the shared foyer area had extras like cotton buds and the most divine hand soap. From food to service to the little details, The Gidley made two walk-ins feel completely taken care of. We’ll definitely be back.
