About

Porteño brings the smoke and sizzle of Argentine asado to Sydney. The open fire grill delivers charred meats with South American flair, paired with an all-Argentine wine list. Bold, primal, unforgettable.

A top steak joint that we discovered by accident. We walked in and they didnt hesitate to get us a superb table. We enjoyed the good food, the delicious steak and the cocktails. Great wine selection too. A bit pricey but cant complain

My partner took me here back in October 2025 to celebrate my birthday, and it was phenomenal! Service was great as staff were always attentive and checking in throughout the evening. The atmosphere here was romantic with its dim lighting, and the candle on our table kept us warm throughout the evening. Food-wise, we ordered from one of the banquet menus that catered for a table of two. All dishes were sensational! Notably, the: • Tallow Fried Empanada was buttery and well-spiced • Woodfired Goldstreet Jersey Milk Cheese and Porteño Chorizo had smoky flavours that ties beautifully with the subtle hints of sweetness • Mains were very flavourful, and well-cooked with care The kitchen's efforts with our dessert was incredibly thoughtful as they placed a candle to mark my birthday celebration. It was definitely a wonderful night to remember! Overall, 5/5!

Porteño delivered another absolute masterclass and yes, I’m still thinking about it today. We kicked things off with the Bluefin Tuna Tartare and Ricotta Gnocchi, which set the tone early. Then came the main event - O’Connor Premium Dry Aged Steak, cooked a textbook medium-rare, flanked by chimichurri and a crisp, refreshing salad of crushed cucumber, jicama, and honeydew. Simple on paper, flawless on the plate. Steak this good doesn’t need hype, it just needs a moment of silence and a sharp knife. We’re both non-alcoholic, and Porteño’s mocktail game deserves its own standing ovation. My wife’s non-alcoholic espresso martini was so convincing it could’ve fooled a bartender’s mother. I had a mezcal-style, chilli-infused, citrusy, sour number with salt on the rim. The taste was smoky, spicy, addictive. It was called something like “Fire …” (Firestarter? Firebird? Fire-Something-I-Regret-Not-Remembering). It was so good I ordered a second, which tells you everything you need to know. Dessert sealed the deal. Flan Mixto for my wife and a Venezuelan Bienmesabe for me - rich, coconutty, and dangerously easy to demolish. The ambience was warm and buzzing without being loud and the service was genuinely excellent. A lovely French waitress happily talked us through the menu and the bartender was just as generous walking us through the mocktails. Just proper hospitality. Not our first visit to Porteño, and definitely not our last. After 16 years of consistency and a well-earned top 20 spot among the top 101 steak restaurants in the world, this place isn’t just riding reputation. It’s earning it every single night. Birthday dinner success: confirmed. 🔥🥩

I have already visited this restaurant more than five times, and in my opinion, it is the number one steak restaurant in Sydney. The aroma from the wood fire is beautifully infused into the steaks, enhancing the natural flavour of the meat and taking it to another level. I have also tried several of the small dishes, and every one of them was of exceptionally high quality. Even something as simple as a salad stands out — the leaves are incredibly fresh and crisp, and the dressing is absolutely outstanding. The wine list is extensive, featuring both excellent Australian and international wines, so I am confident that anyone can find a wine to suit their taste. The sommelier is also very friendly and knowledgeable, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. My sincere thanks to the owner-chef, Elvis, for consistently delivering such a wonderful dining experience.

Solid dinner 🤗 It’s a nice place; smelt phenomenal when walking in the restaurant. Staff were nice and friendly The steak was super soft, good to share But only after we had so many entrees/starters. Not shown was the sour dough, cucumber salad, espresso mocktail/cocktails and because we were celebrating a birthday, super cute they brought out a little mousse donut with a candle , I really appreciate places that do that ! Stand outs were the blue fine tuna tartare. But I’d probs come back for the flan and maybe try a different steak. Worth a try to visit this place
